MIDLANDS PROVINCE

It is an office under the Office of the President and cabinet, (OPC) created to run the affairs of the province in line with the devolution agenda. The Devolution and Decentralisation Policy elaborates on the Constitutional imperatives of bringing governance closer to communities and make it more accessible as a way of enhancing responsiveness, accountability and participatory governance over local development priorities. Midlands Province is in the central part of Zimbabwe, covering a surface area of 49,166km² and has a population of 1,811,905 (2022 PHC Report). The Province has eight (8) Administrative Districts. Local Governance in these Districts is entrenched through fourteen Local Authorities, six being Urban Local Authorities with a total area of 49,166 km² with a total population of Approximately 1.75 – 1.78 million.  However, the offices of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Midlands Province are currently housed at 10th Street New Government Complex, Gweru.
